Boron, Borox, and Borates

We were up early at about 6:30am and sat out under the morning sun and had our coffee, then a long walk around the campground loop road which was a good distance. The sky was just a very dark blue on the opposite side from the sun, with not a cloud to be seen.

We set off traveling south again, and passing a town called Boron, we noticed a hightway sign for "Visitor Center." We decided to go there, and followed the signs, but they led us to the visitor center of the Borox company, and their large open pit mine. So we spent an hour or two touring the place and viewing the large mine pit. Boron is an element in the periodic table, Borox is the name of the company that mines it, and Borates are the various compounds that contain Boron.

They are realy precise in their speed limits coming and going from this Borax operation!

I had noticed as well in our BCAA book, that there was an aerospace museum in Boron, so we swung by there. I figured Doreen wouln't want to miss that :) The aerospace museum seemed to be closed, and although there was a separate general museum, it didn't look too interesting, so we went on our way. I think the main item of interest here was this F-4 Fighter Plane, that they had sitting out front.

On south we went to Desert Willow RV Resort (N34 25 43.7, W117 23 14.9) in Hesperia, just north of the mountains surrounding the Los Angeles area. We got the best site in the place, one of a few that had a real tree, and it had a nice grassy area for Tanner's toilet. As I've said before, Tanner hates the toilets they have here in the South West. There's usually not a blade of grass to be seen to pee on! This Resort is really nice, and no more expensive (for seniors) than California State Parks. In the evening, we drove a couple of miles down the road to have a delicious Mexican meal at a restaurant the people in the RV resort recommended.
