Rainy Day

It started raining shortly after we left our campground this morning, and it poured rain all day. Not a day for taking pictures, I'm afraid.

 

We sort of changed our plans, and turned to the right, instead of continuing to head north. There are two ways to go to the northern end of Delaware. If we continued to head north, we would end up having to deal with the Washington/Baltimore area traffic. The other way to go is to head over to Norfolk, Virginia and deal with that traffic, which I would think is not quite so bad. Then we would take the bridge/tunnel across the mouth of Chesapeake Bay, and come up through the south of Delaware. We took that route in the opposite direction on our last trip east. There is a four lane road, that is not an Interstate, and doesn't seem to have the high speed limits and traffic of an Interstate, that goes right across southern Virginia to Norfolk. So that's what we took today, and find ourselves at a Occoneechee State Park (N36 37 33.8, W78 31 52.4) about midway across Virginia.

 

We won't be staying in anymore Virginia State Parks; they like to soak you for every penny they can get - about twice the price of the last two states we camped in. The rain may have had something to do with it, but Virginia doesn't seem to have the nice picturesque countryside and homes of the Carolinas. Of course, we are only in one small area of the state.

 

We had a choice of two campsites, so I took the less precarious one! Miss Travelaire is perched on the side of a hill, held up by a few pressure treated 6x6s. We actually did get her level though, with the addition of a few of our "lego blocks" under the wheels. Fortunately we have a few trees to help keep her from rolling over the edge.
