Before taking off this morning, Doreen and I went for another walk along by the river. The vegitation is so lush along here, and these trees that grow out of the water are neat. We traveled further south, traveling through the most populous area of Florida, the I-4 corridor that streaches across from Tampa to Orlando. But we sneaked through on country roads avoiding the Interstates that go through the big cities. We made the mistake of detouring over to go to a Costco to pick up some coffee, however, and that got us into a bit of traffic. But the rest of the trip was peaceful, again going down roads with little traffic. We finally drove through some citrus groves, so they really do produce oranges down here.
We ended up at a Army Corp of Engineers park on the Caloosahatchee River, called WP Franklin Lock & Dam, North Campground (N26 43 25.0, W81 41 35.7). As we arrived at the gate house, we could see that the campground looked full. At a lot of these campgrounds they reserve every site, so even if you arrive early it may not make any difference. But there was one vacant site; someone had just pulled out. The is the third time on this trip that we got the last campsite, and so far, we've not been turned away.
Like a lot of these ACOE campgrounds, this one was very trim and proper. The grass was very green, the pads were smooth concrete, and the rest of the area was nice even stones. We were right next to the big dam across the river. And we have electrical power here, as we did at our last couple of campgrounds, so we could run our air conditioner if we wanted to escape inside to cool off.
The place was teaming with all sorts and sizes of birds. Big birds.
Little birds.
Light coloured birds.
Dark coloured birds.
Medium coloured birds.
Ruffled feathered birds (from a brisk breeze that was blowing).
Long necked birds.
Another long necked bird.
Black and Red birds.
And birds that get along together.
And as the sun went down, we had another somewhat colourful sunset.
We are still enjoying your trip. The weather is nice now and the deer haven't eaten all the tulips yet. The chickadees have moved into our new birdhouse.

Nice pic's of tgr birds. Eric came today to do the electricsl work that ee needed tk have done. He didnt quote the amount but it worth the cost. When will you hook uwith Nina & fsmily? Luv U.
