Doreen and I walked around the historic town this morning, peering in windows of all the houses and buildings. Here's a picture taken through the window of one of the shops.
And the barber shop.
A drug store.
Doreen peering in the door of the general store.
And here's what's inside.
The First Baptist Church, and the school house. It's too bad the cash straped California Parks seem to be letting this place go with little maintenance. It would be so much nicer if they could just cut the grass!
After having the town all to ourselves yesterday, this morning look what's coming in! Two bus loads of little kids!
We stuck around until almost noon, Doreen sitting in the sun, and me playing my banjo. Then it was off towards the west and then north for about a three hour drive up to Los Banos Creek Campground, which is on the shore of another small reservoir formed by this dam. Interstate 5, on which we travelled for most of this drive, was really busy today, full of cars wanting to go well over the speed limit of 70 mph (I don't like to think what that is in km/hr!) We got in with some trucks traveling a little bit slower, because their speed limit is 55 mph.
This campground (N36 59 12.3, W120 56 17.9) is quite a pretty place, very green hills all around. It was somewhat windy when we arrived, but it calmed down in the evening and we were able to light a campfire.
Some of the local bird population.
I didn't think I would be able to post this tonight because the AT&T cell coverage is very marginal here. But, it is quite steady, so the pictures all uploaded very slowly but surely.
