We came south for this?

 

We knew we had to be over the mountain passes by Wednesday.  Sure enough, about 10pm last night it started to rain, and it poured rain all night.  That would be snow in the mountain passes, and Miss Travelaire refuses to tromp in the snow!  It was pretty wet out this morning when I took Harley for an outing.

And it rained and rained and poured rain all day.  Why did we come all the way down here for this?  And to make matters worse, I looked at the weather for Victoria, and it was sunny.  It was warmer here, though, with the thermometer dipping down to about 36F (that’s about 2.2C) overnight and rising to be fairly comfortable today.

We tackled the drive through the Sacramento/Stockton area today, and we decided to take the best route to miss the worst traffic.  It’s a little bit slower, but we managed to squeeze through the area between Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay area on mostly country roads through agricultural areas.  The roads are fairly rough, but I-5 and US99 are even rougher, and the traffic barrels along at a pace that Miss Travelaire can’t keep up.  There were strong, gusty winds today also, which are really difficult for Miss Travelaire when she’s running really fast.

So here we are at a primitive campsite called Medeiros on San Luis Reservoir, near Los Banos, well south of the Sacramento/San Francisco area.  It finally stopped raining shortly before we arrived at about 5:30 pm, and the winds have died down as well.  Not much of a photo day today!
