Doreen woke up with a lot of pain today, so she took some Tylenol and went back to bed. While she was resting, I packed up all our laundry and did a clothes washing and drying. By the time that was done, Doreen was up, and we got away at around 11am, heading for the Pima Air & Space Museum, not too far away. Now, I don’t have much to report today except airplanes, airplanes, and more airplanes! This museum will be the home of the Phillipine Mars bomber that flew down to Arizona from BC several weeks ago.
When we walked through the entrance of the museum, the first thing we saw was a full-scale replica of the Wright brothers plane. What seemed amazing was the large size of this contraption, I never realized it was that big.
Doreen was right away excited about all these exhibits, and here she is carefully reading about this helicoptor.
This is a World War II bomber on display.
And here this 101-year-old bomber pilot was reminiscing about his sorties with this type of bomber. We just happened along the day he was here.
Doreen is wondering here whether she should join the Navy!
I prefer the Air Force.
We both liked this Catalina amphibious airplane. I think this is the type of plane that flew out of Joey’s hangar up in Coal Harbour during the war.
This spy plane flew at over 2000mph.
This is the Chinese Mig 15.
And the only American fighter that could match it in the Korean War, the Sabre Jet.
And a WWII Mustang.
Outside, there were literally hundreds of multiple kinds of airplanes. You wonder why so many different airplanes had to be designed and built.
Finally, after several hours of this, and Harley (who was allowed to come along even though he’s not a service dog!) pulling at his leash the whole time, we set off for new adventures. Miss Travelaire took us on just a short drive, but longer than expected because of bumper-to-bumper traffic in places. We are now camped among a bunch of other RV’s in the desert just west of Tucson. The place reminds us of Slab City! (N32 09 30.8, W111 06 40.0)
Just looked at all the planes. You went on a highly interesting adventure. The planes are incredible and so many different types. The spy plane being able to fly 2000 MPH - talk about a space ship. We hope Doreen continues to feel better (I think she just wanted you to do the laundry - pretty clever 😂). Have a good night. Luv2both (T&S ❤️🙏🏼)
