When we got up this morning, about half the birds were already gone from their high wire. Then slowly over the course of a couple of hours they one by one flew off until at 10:30 there was just one left. And he/she flew away shortly after. The first bird came back this evening shortly after 6pm, and now as it’s getting pretty dark, there are 23 birds back on the wire. There are a few more cables that go across the river, but this is the only one that these birds use. It must be just the right diameter for their feet to hold on for the night.
Doreen had a lot of pain this morning getting up, more than usual. But as the day went on, it seemed to subside to normal levels. She was just as happy to stay put in our campsite, so she and I hiked up to the camp entrance and paid for a second night. She was resting on her bed late morning, so Mr. Cube was kind enough to take Harley and me for a bike ride. We did the loop tour from the campground up and over Davis Dam into Nevada, down the other side of the river to the Casino in Laughlin, and back along the trail to home. It wasn’t that far, only 12 km, but we stopped so many times to read signs along the trail and to take pictures, plus a playtime with Harley, that it took a good few hours.
Before going across the dam, here is the lake that is backed up behind the dam.
Up on the dam by the power-generating station, looking down the Colorado River past our campsite.
Around the front side of the dam on the Nevada side.
Looking across the river at our campground.
Here’s Miss Travelaire. Everyone near us seemed to have left; maybe Miss Travelaire turned them all off!
Looking back up the river towards the dam with our campsite on the right.
There is quite an elaborate bridge for the trail crossing the highway into Laughlin.
Finally, to the casino that we can see from our campsite.
Here’s one of the tour boats that go by, up to the dam and back again.

Looks like you and Harley had quite the road trip to the dam casino and back π. Hope Doreen feels better tomorrow. Luv2both (T&S ❤️ππΌ)
ReplyDeleteShe is better, and was up early for morning coffee!
ReplyDeleteI love that you counted how many birds were on that wire. Such a McClure thing. π
ReplyDeleteWell it was important because it was the same number as the night before!
