We Were Ejected From The Campground!

Well, the snow that was forecast came during the night, along with a bunch of tree branches that fell with the weight of the snow!  Here are some pictures of our campsites this morning:

Ours:

And Eric & Sarah's:

A tree came down right next to Miss Travelaire, and just brushed her hind foot.

The park rangers came by and told everyone they will have to leave because they are closing down the park for the next few days while they clear the trees away.  It is supposed to continue snowing today and tomorrow, and they don't want any more hit by falling trees.  They got the campground road cleared so we could exit by about 9:30am, and we drove across the highway and got a bit of gas before taking off north towards the Yukon.

It snowed lightly all the way to the Yukon, but the roads were quite bare and wet.

We arrived in Watson Lake in the Yukon about noon, and had a look around the "sign post forrest."  People from all over the world put signs from their home town or licence plates on the posts and trees.

Eric had to get in on the act:

We drove on after refueling, to Boya Lake Provincial Park (N59 22 18.7, W129 06 22.7), which is a ways down the Cassiar highway south of the Yukon border, back in BC.

It was still snowing most of the way.  This is the Cassiar Highway which heads south from the Yukon down to near Stewart BC.  That's Miss Travelaire barely visible ahead, the picture being taken from Eric's truck.  They have been following us because our brake lights were not working for some reason.  The Cassiar Highway is somewhat narrow with and deep ditches in most places, and there is no line down the middle, so it gives Miss Travelaire a little bit of a feeling that she might run off the road!

The campsite right on Boya Lake was just gorgeous.  In fact all the campsites in this park are great.

But it was cold!  Here are the boys, fooling around, huddled around the fire buried inside their sweaters!  We located Miss Travelaire so that the fire pit was just under her awning so we could sit and warm ourselves out of the rain.

Sarah too:

Eric and Eli after feeling the water in the lake, decided that it would feel warm even though the air was cold, so they decided to go for a swim!

But it was cold cold cold;  Eric lasted a few seconds in the water, and this was as far as Eli got!  Notice how green the water is.  All the lakes up north here are like that.

This is such a nice campsite, if only it were not so cold.  A passing by camper said five days ago it was sunny and 25 degrees, and they were all swimming in the lake.

A beautiful place!
