Another Day At Barkerville

We got away from our campsite just in time for the Victorian tour of Barkerville.  This lady from the 1860s lead the tour, and she was very good.

The stage coach just took off, and came galloping around the corner:

Another lady from the late 1800s explained the operation of a mine shaft where the miners were let down and the gravel containing the gold was brought up using a water wheel.

She had help demonstrating the apparatus with an old miner who was somewhat scatter brained!

I climbed up a steep set of stairs to a place where you could see the whole town:

Here's the Main Street looking from Chinatown:

And looking the opposite direction towards Chinatown.  There were a lot of Chinese people working the mines at very low wages, and poor living conditions.

Finally, on the way out, I stopped by the school where the school teacher was just instructing the class on the rules and regulations before entering the school.

We all got away at about 1pm, and drove for about three hours to a provincial campground called Crooked River (N54 28 32.0, W122 40 10.9).  It was on Bear Lake, but there were signs posted that it had swimmer's itch, so the kids couldn't swim here.  We had a nice dinner and campfire in the evening, planning where we were headed for tomorrow that would have laundry facilities.
