Eric & I were looking into installing a bright backup light on Miss Travelaire this morning when we discovered that her brake lights were not working. Eric spent quite some time trying to figure out what was wrong. It didn't seem to be anything simple, and we had to pack up and leave without solving the problem. While he was doing that, the kids went for a swim in the lake and I sat and watched them.
After we left, with Eric & Sarah following us, we drove to Quenell, and stopped at a Safeway store for a few groceries and then at the free dump station in the center of town to empty our tanks. Then it was on to Barkerville where we set up camp at the Forrest Rose Campground in mid afternoon. After settling in, we made our way into Barkerville for a tour around.
The first building right at the end of the street was the old Anglican Church.
The blacksmith shop was just down the street. The blacksmith was just finishing up making a triangle for calling people to dinner, as we came by.

And the newspaper printing shop was really interesting, with a lady showing how all the typesetting was done.
Some costumed folk put on some sort of play in the middle of the street. The guy on the right was supposed to be Billy Barker who first discovered gold.
Back at the campsite after wandering all over town, we had a bunch of Whiskey Jacks (slang for Gray Jays) invade the campsite, and the kids had fun feeding them out of their hands!
We had a really nice supper, with beef steak, and a large variety of salads and veggies, as the campfire kept the mosquitos at bay. It was a very eventful day, with nice sunny weather.
