Off To Disneyland And/Or A Cruise

We've got plans! That is to drive down to the Los Angeles area: Eric and Sarah and the boys in their big deisel truck and fifth wheel, and Doreen and I with Miss Travelaire minus Tanner (he coudn't come for various reasons and got left behind with David & Muriel in Chemainus). The truck and fifth wheel are heading for Anaheim and Disneyland. Miss Travelaire would have none of that, she's wants to take us to the Long Beach Cruise Ship Terminal. She is kind enough to park there for four days while we go on a four day cruise, if all goes well, the same four days Eric and family are wandering around Disneyland.

So, here we are on our first leg. We started out about 6:45pm and drove all the way from our house down to the inner harbour in Victoria (about 15 km) to the Coho Ferry terminal (N48 25 17.6, W123 22 22.4), and we are now camped in their parking lot waiting for the 6:10 am ferry to Port Angeles. We were worried that the traffic coming down here would be really bad because this is Canada day. And we had to be at the terminal between 7:30 and 8 pm (after the last ferry for the day has left, and before the employees at the entrance leave. But all went well. Notice Eric and the boys with their red and white Canada Day shirts!

Canada Day in Canada, is similar to the 4th of July in the USA, except everything here is red and white (no blue around here). We walked up from the ferry terminal to the BC Legislature lawn, where we had a bite to eat while VERY loud music (if you could call it that) played up by the front door of the building. As you can see, everything and everyone is red and white.

This was the best thing we've done in years. We have a front row seat for the Canada Day fireworks, which they put off just across the other side of the innner harbour shown here.

The inner harbour is beautiful in the evening as the sun goes down. Here's the Empress Hotel off to the right of the picture above.

And here's the younger set sitting waiting for night time and the fireworks show.

And finally, here they come: about 15 minutes and many $$ later.

Well, it's a late night, the Coho just came back in just after 11pm to dock for the night, and we are off to bed. Have to be up ready for the US customs and immigration at 5:10 in the morning!!
