Serves us right for trying to drive too far on the Lord's Day!
We got going in plenty of time for Church. Miss Travelaire drove us in to Sacramento, about a 25 minute drive to the Covenant Reformed Church. This is the same church we went to on March 1st on our last trip to California. You can look that up in my blog for March 2015. You'll see a picture of the church there, so I didn't bother to take another one. But I did take a picture of the bulletin, which has a picture of the church; so that's just about as good.
It was a long service (a communion service), and we didn't get out until about 12:45. And the campground which we had reserved was about a 4 hour drive away. But once we got going, we realized it was going to be longer than 4 hours. It's 4th of July weekend, and all the Los Angeles holidayers were returning home. So the traffic coming out of Sacramento, and going by Stockton was horrendous. In addition, the road was about as bad as you could get. They were doing construction on parts, and had uneven pavement for miles, and there were narrow areas which Miss Travelaire barely fit through. With all the bumpy ride, I didn't think Doreen was going to make it. But at the end, the last few miles were smooth, and she calmed down by the time we reached the campground.
The Buena Vista Recreation area where we've camped (N35 13 35.8, W119 15 40.9) is odd, because the sites where we parked have the hookups on the wrong side. So if you are hooked up properly to the sewer etc., then the door is facing the road instead of the picnic area. That is weird. So Eric and Sarah didn't bother to hook up to the sewer, and parked the other way. Their water and electric reach ok. As you can see in the picture, we just let the door be on the wrong side.
The kids bought a cheap wading pool at Walmart the other day, and here we all are dipping our feet in the pool to cool off. Feels good!
They also have squirt guns, and Eric is getting his in this picture!
