We don't have too many exciting pictures today. No pictures of Eric's truck broken down on the side of the road or anything like that. That's because Eric seemed to finally fix the problem last night, and Big Deisel just barreled down the highway all day like it was supposed to. There was a big test first thing in the morning as we climbed up over Siskiyou Pass going into California from Oregon. It was up and up and up to about 4300 feet, and then down down down into California.
Passing Mount Shasta, we almost could see the peak peaking (no pun intended) out through the clouds. Normally, all we've ever seen of this mountain as we pass by is the very base rising into a thick cloud layer.
We all stopped at a rest stop at Lake Shaska (what's left of it; it's mostly dried up!).
And we had our lunch, while poor Eli was feeling sick ( you can see his legs sticking out on the far picnic table). But he soon recovered.
We had reservations for the Yolo County Fairgrounds (N38 40 04.8, W121 45 51.3). But we hardly needed them; when we arrived we found only a couple of other RVs there, and we had our pick of dozens of sites. It is not the most scenic campground in the world: mainly a gravel parking lot, but it has full hookups (life support in this hot weather), so that's the main thing. We are wondering if there will be any 4th of July fireworks tonight!
It's been dark for quite awhile now, and it's just like a war zone around here. There are explosions all over the place, and it's been going on for hours. Here we are trying to see the display as well as hear it.
