The day started out on a sour note. Sarah happened to find a couple of ants in her RV. No, just kidding; Sarah found a couple of million ants in her RV. By the time I got around to getting my camera out they had wiped at least a million and a half of them out using windex! But here's sample of the a stream of them climbing up the outside of their 5th wheel. They must have parked over top of the ant hill because Miss Travelaire was only bothered by a few ants here and there.
We parted ways this morning. We set off for the Long Beach Cruise Terminal, while Eric, Sarah and family set off for Disneyland. We managed to climb up the big hill, called "The Grapevine" which traverses the mountains that surround Los Angeles, and Miss Travelaire managed to make it to the cruise ship terminal in Long Beach without bruising any of her fenders. The only problem was that right at the last minuted, she didn't quite follow our GPS lady and we ended up on the streets of Los Angeles. It took quite some consultation between Miss Travelaire and the GPS lady, and about 10 extra miles before they cooperated in getting us to the terminal. Miss Travelaire is now parked in the terminal parking lot, and kindly waiting for us to return in 4 days time.
After standing in lines for longer than Doreen liked, we finally walked up the gang plank to the Carnival Inspiration, and we were on board by about 12:40 pm. The ship was not scheduled to depart for another 5 hours. Doreen is looking a little apprehensive in that picture on the gangplank!

It wasn't long before Doreen discovered what is to be her favorite place. It is the Serenity Lounge ( only for people 21 years of age and over), which is right at the stern of the boat.
Behind that life ring over on the rail, you can see the Queen Mary which is docked right next door to the terminal. The cruise ship terminal (the big dome seen to the left) once housed Howard Hughes' "Spruce Goose" aircraft, before it was moved up into Oregon.
One of the first orders of business was the safety drill, where they rounded everyone up and lined us all up on deck. It was interesting that during all this activity, there was a Coast Guard boat going back and forth watching the whole thing.
Looks like our AT&T service just quit as I was about to publish this blog, so it will have to wait until I get a signal again :(
We just pulled in to Avalon on Catalina Island (7 am), so I have a signal again.
