Also referred to as Wild Rose Country, known for it's beef cattle, cowboys, black gold, the engine of the Canadian economy, and the old home place of the infamous Warke family - that's Alberta! And we entered that province today, after our sojourn with Saskatchewan. You'd think Alberta could put their sign in a place without an electric transformer right behind it to ruin the picture!
The truck stop on the north side of Saskatoon, where we parked for the night, was really crowded with trucks, to the point where at the end of the evening some of the trucks were parked up near the restaurant area where we usually park with our small motorhome. So, in the morning, when the parking lot began to get crowded with people coming to the restaurant, we decided to pulled out so as not to take up space. And we left without making our usual breakfast or coffee. We thought we'd stop at a Subway and have their breakfast thing which we'd seen advertised. But, wouldn't you know, there were no Subways, or any fast food place, for miles (the towns along the Yellowhead Highway are few and small for the most part!) So we ended up driving about 100 km before stopping for breakfast at North Battleford, Saskatchewan.
We took our time, because of our early start, and after crossing into Alberta we stopped, barely into the afternoon, at Vermillion Provincial Park. After all the cold windy days we've had, we were happy to enjoy a much warmer, sunny and calm afternoon, so we sat out in the warm sunshine, and went for a hike around the campground. Once the sun went down, however, you could feel that the night was going to be a cold one, and we are glad that we have our electric heater.
