On South to Morro Bay

After coffee this morning, we drove up to the trailhead for the Bear Gulch Cave trail. The scenery from the road was not very exciting, but once you got on the trail things began to get interesting. Unfortunately Doreen was not up to hiking, especially up the 500 feet difference in elevation.

 

There were many really interesting rock formations.

 

At the highest point there was a beautiful calm pond.

 

I finally sited a condor. You can tell from the white on the forward part of their wings.

 

I didn't see any condor nesting on the ground. But I did see this pigeon up in a crevice of the rock wall :)

 

After my hike, we set off along some country roads until we finally got to US101, and down south to Morro Bay on the coast (N35 23 58.5, W120 52 00.0), just a short 2 hour drive. We've been here a couple of times before and always enjoyed it. Here is Doreen enjoying her Cheez-it snack (have I mentioned you can't get these in Canada?). Morrow Bay is noted for Morro Rock, which is a huge rock formation in the water just off the coast. You can see it just above and to the right of Doreen in the picture.

 

There is a beautiful wide beach just across from where we are camped.
