No problem with Doreen getting up! She was waking me up at 5am, because she couldn't sleep, with a headache. But with a Tylenol 3, she soon was quite cheerful. There was no hope of making the 7am ferry, so we had a leisurely breakfast, and were in plenty of time for the 9am sailing. And here is Doreen in her usual picture on the deck of the ferry as we are leaving Swartz Bay. She's looking pretty good these days, having been watching what she eats the last few months!
The ferry coming the other way from Tsawwassan (south of Vancouver) always meets the ferry from Swartz Bay (our ferry) in Active Pass.
As you can see, it was a pretty dismal day going across the Strait of Georgia (or whatever they call it nowadays). Approaching the US border, the sign said 30 minute wait for the Peace Arch crossing, and 10 minutes for the Truck crossing. So, we headed for the Truck crossing. And, it was a 20 minute wait. They weren't quite telling the truth, but it was not too bad for a Friday I would think. No problem with the customs guy; just a wave through after looking at our passports and checking our criminal records on the computer.
Heading south past Bellingham, we came across rain, like a downpour where you could barely see. The picture doesn't do it justice! Then as we approaced Everett, things got worse! Traffic! More traffic! Bumper to bumper traffic! The GPS lady, decided I-5 was hopeless, and steered us off onto city streets all the way through Seattle (and this was just the middle of the day in the afternoon when you'd think things should be easy!) Instead of going extremely slow on I-5, we speeded along for a couple hundred yards, stopped for a red light, speeded along, stopped for a red light, speeded......
We had hoped to get down past Olympia today, but it got later and later until we had to decide to detour to a Super Walmart (don't laugh Eridc & Sarah!), located not too far off our route in Puyallup (N47 09 39.2, W122 17 27.7). So here we are parked for the night; we even have our own little tree for shade! Doreen's in stocking up on groceries we can't bring across the border, while I'm writing this up.
