Over the Golden Gate Bridge!

We are getting lots of sun again, but it is not quite as warm as we head north.  We were out of our campsite fairly early for us, at around 9:45am, and heading north for San Fransisco.  I figured on a Sunday morning it was probably about the best time to go through there with the traffic not being as bad as other times.  But that seemed not the case.  It was bumper to bumper three lanes all the way through.  Going this way, you travel right through the streets of the city, not the downtown, but city streets nonetheless.  Now, I don’t know who designed these streets, but the lanes are really narrow.  Miss Travelaire, being as plump as she is, thought she was going to rub elbows with the vehicles on either side all the way through.

We finally got through those streets and onto the Golden Gate Bridge, and here the lanes were hardly any wider.  We were in the outside lane, and Miss Travelaire thought she might scrape her sides on the railing separating the traffic from the pedestrian walkway.  They could have made the walkway a little narrower and the traffic lanes a little wider, as far as I’m concerned.

Well, we got across without any enormous earthquakes while on the bridge, and we pulled into the viewing area on the far side.

This viewing area was chock-full of cars, but Miss Travelaire muscled her way in between them all.

Now, we didn’t want to travel very far today, but after much searching, it seemed impossible to find a reasonable RV campground anywhere near the Bay Area, so we had to continue on north on US101 until we left the big cities behind.  We headed for a campground on Lake Mendocino that we had been to years before, only finding that it was “closed for the winter and opening in the spring.”  Going back on the internet, I found a private campground nearby, the Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort (N39 24 28.7, W122 22 48.7).  It looked really expensive on their website but turned out to be fairly reasonable as far as campgrounds around these parts.  The campground was probably not even half full, and they had lower prices than advertised.  I couldn’t get Doreen out for our campsite photo as it was rather cool this afternoon, so I had to settle for Harley 😂!

  1. Hi, we went on your blog a little while ago and didn’t see a post so we kinda thought you were out of cell range but decided take a final look before turning out the lights. You pricked our interest about the cost of private or public camp site nowadays and/or compared to Canada. A couple more people became members of Lighthouse today including “Craig” (John Reimer’s employee), but overall our numbers were down today 🤷🏼‍♂️. It was raining most of the day so you’re not missing anything weather wise here (but we miss you 😘). Have a good night. Luv2both (T&S ❤️🙏🏼).
