The wind gusted all night, and rain pelted down. In the morning it was cloudy and still windy and cold cold cold! We seemed to spend a lot of time puttering around, and by the time I unhooked Miss Travelaire’s IV, it was about 10:30am. This RV campground was just chock-full of huge RVs. Our little Miss Travelaire was glad to get out from all those behemoths!
We traveled down roads that were just meant for Miss Travelaire today. We just spent probably 20 or 30 minutes on Interstate 5, with its 75 mph speed limit, that included going down the big Grapevine hill, a 5 mile stretch of steep decline into the central valley of California. But the rest was on two-lane roads with 55 mph speed limits and with very little traffic. It was a pretty ride through the mountains with lush green scenery as we neared the Pacific coast.
We headed for Pismo State Beach campground. Now here’s the kicker. Yesterday, when I decided to go to this state park, I tried to make a reservation online, which seems to be the only real way to be sure to get into these parks. But in order to make a reservation, you have to create an account with the state parks. But in order to create an account, you have to provide your address, which includes which state you reside in. But we don’t reside in a state; we reside in Canada. Therefore, there was no way to get through this bureaucratic mess. We finally just decided to drive to the campground at Pismo Beach and hope for the best, as it seemed for tonight the campground wasn’t near full. This worked, and we are now settled at Pismo Beach Oceano Campground (N35 06 24.7, W120 37 36.2) amid cold blustery weather.
The trees here are beautiful; these are some sort of eucalyptus.
Don’t know what kind of tree this is.
Doreen was wondering about having a shower, but you need to have “tokens” for the shower, and we are not sure where you get these 🙁.
