Onwards Into Idaho

It didn't seem nearly as cold last night, but Doreen woke up with a bad headache from pain in her neck.  I think she lets her neck get cold while sleeping; she needs to wear a turtle neck but never will.

We left a little earlier than usual, and travelled down along the Snake River for quite a few miles.  It was a sunny and still morning, and the water in the river was like glass.

We finally crossed the river from Oregon into Idaho on this bridge.

And the view from the bridge looking back from where we came was pretty with the still water.

A motor boat create created some waves in this picture looking onwards away from the bridge.

The local power authority has a series of dams on the river, and we passed by one of these along the way.

There were high voltage electical lines going out in every which direction all along here.

We stopped at a few places which looked far down to the power stations below.  The road for miles along here was high above the river and dropped off steeply down to the river below.  It twisted and turned, so we travelled along very slowly.  Miss Travelaire says "Why do we have to go to places like this, where if I stumbled we could fall hundreds of feet, especially with all those snakes down there."Fortunately there was almost no traffic, and no one came up behind us wanting to pass.

We finally climbed up to higher elevations and though some pine forrests before coming to US95, which is a major north south highway through these parts.  The landscape changed back very flat with the usual scrubby brush we've been through the last few days.  It's amazing how much land in the west is just desert.  There was a lot of farm land as we went on as well, mostly black Angus cows.

We passed through one town, and came across this store.  This is just for you, Trevor!

Finally, after passing through Boise, Idaho, we came to our campground for the night at Three Island Crossing State Park (N42 56 29.9, W115 19 05.3), which is situated where else, but on the Snake River.

The section of the campground that was open is pretty far from the river, but it is very nice with a beautiful view down towards the river and the escarpment beyond, and the sun setting through thin clouds.
