Back In The Northwest

We pulled out of our fancy RV resort by about 9:30 am on a bright sunny day.  Fed Miss Travelaire her breakfast at a gas station before entering California again, and travelled most of the day northward through California and into Oregon.  We officially left the Southwest and are now in the Northwest again!

The most exciting part for Miss Travelaire was travelling out of Susanville, CA on Route 139, which is a somewhat narrow curvy road.  We've gone this way before and she remembers it well, climbing up the side of a mountain with no shoulder to speak of on the road.  And the road drops off over the edge, about a thousand foot drop.  Other than that, the trip was uneventful until we arrived at our destination, Collier Memorial State Park.  I had searched this park out on the internet which stated it is open year round.  When we arrived, you guessed it, it was closed for the winter.  After driving 285 miles, that is disappointing.!  Turns out, after further investigation, I find that it says the park is open for day use year round, but camping closes after October 🙁.

It turns out there was a forestry campsite 1 1/2 miles down the road, a very washboardy gravel road, and we headed for that.  So we are here, camped all by ourselves at Williamson River Campground (N42 39 31.8, W121 51 13.0).  One consultation, the camping here seems to be free, because the place where you deposit your fee is all covered over with a plastic bag!
