Visiting Beth & Calvin

Doreen had gotten up really early, so we managed to get away from New Orleans at 8:45am!  So we had a good start, and within no time we were traveling along I-10 (that you saw in pictures of the RV park) looking down on where we were just camped.  And we traveled I-10 most of the day until we got into Texas.  Then we made a mistake in following the GPS route, and got on a two lane road that had about 2 million (well, at least a couple of 100,000) red lights.  But we managed to make it to Beth & Calvin Wiebe's place in Spring, which is a suburb north of Houston by about 4:30pm.  Beth is my sister Ann's daughter for anyone who doesn't know.  Beth had told me in an email that Calvin usually "cooks some meat" on Saturday nights, so when we arrived he had the barbecue going, and was cooking a "Texas barbecue" - really tasty stuffed pork roll and chicken, with baked beans, plus a couple of salads and homemade bread.  And we sat out around the patio table in 80 degree weather.

Beth & Calvin have a beautiful big relatively new house in a really nice neighbourhood:

Calvin said it is worth about $200,000.  It would be worth more than 3 times that in Victoria!

Yesterday, we went to church (PCA) morning and evening with the Beth & Calvin.  We got a real tour of Houston because the church was a 45 minute drive through town.

Doreen found sleeping in the motorhome difficult on Saturday night because of the hot humid weather - it only got down to 73F both Saturday and Sunday nights, and it was more like 80 in the motorhome, and humid.  Last night she slept in the air-conditioned house, and slept very well.  I stayed out in the motorhome with Tanner!  We'll probably have another night of this hot humid weather before it is supposed to cool off some.
