Hectic Day

In any campsite, our RV is usually the smallest.

It held true in Walmart's "campsite" too!

The day today started out ok.  It's another sunny day, and it warmed up nicely after a 32F night.  We headed on down from Laramie WY into Colorado.  We stopped in Boulder and visited a banjo company (Ome Banjos), one of a few very small shops in the USA that manufactures banjos by hand.  It was really interesting to see how extremely nice instruments are made completely by hand.    Along about mid afternoon we headed towards a Colorado State Park Campsite.  The GPS then proceeded to take us up a steep windy mountain road.  We went up and up and up and around and around and around.  Finally after climbing to about 9000 ft we came to the state park.  There was a little booth there with instructions etc.  But it said that RVs couldn't negotiate the road to the campsite because it was even worse than the one we already took, and it showed another way around for RVs to get there.  So we proceeded on to find this other way, but never did find it (our GPS of course couldn't be faulted for not knowing the other way!)  So we ended up traveling around mountain roads all afternoon.  Finally I just told the GPS "Go to Denver", and it led us eventually to Interstate 70 heading towards Denver.  However, the problem was not yet solved because we didn't have a place to stay for the night yet.  There are very few campsites available, because this part of the country is pretty high elevation (they don't call Denver the "Mile High City" for nothing).  We just couldn't find a campsite that was open.  So the solution is:  head for Walmart!  That we did, but it turns out Denver has a bylaw that forbids overnight parking anywhere.  It's getting on dark now, and we head down I25 with a speed limit of 75 (mph not km/h) towards Colorado Springs - it's hard not to keep up with traffic at night otherwise cars are coming up fast behind and swerving out to pass.  So we kept up with the traffic (it was moving along closer to 65) and made it to another Walmart north of Colorado Springs.  There is at least one other RV plus a truck parked here, so I'm not asking if parking is allowed.  The fantastic part about this place is that there is a Staples store nearby with a WiFi connection, so Doreen's in bed, and I can sit and surf the internet!
