We were up before sunrise as usual, and had lots of time to prepare to get away. Miss Travelaire and our GPS lady combined with great skill to get us to church in plenty of time, even when we had about a 1 1/4 hour drive in a fairly densly populated area. It was a beautiful morning, and we drove through some very scenic country roads for part of the way. We attended Covenant Reform Church, which is a congregation of the Reformed Chruch in the US, a denomination originally of German origin. I gather from reading about this denomination that a large part of it became very liberal, and united with other liberal denominations. But a smaller conservative group remained faithful tot he reformed faith, and this smaller group continued as the Reformed Chruch in the US. This particular congregation we found to be very lively, friendly, and committed to the reformed faith. It was filled with young families, and obviously moving forward. We were very favourably impressed.
After church, we set off north on Interstate 5, pulled off and had lunch in a shopping center parking lot, and then headed for a private RV park about an hour up the road. But when we got there, the office was closed, and no one was around, so we set off north again, and came to another Army Corps of Engineers park called Buckhorn Campground (N39 48 44.5, W122 21 59.3) on Black Butte Lake. As usual for Army Corps parks, this one was layed out really well, neat and tidy. It was quite a warm sunny afternoon when we arrived, and in the evening we lit a campfire and sat out for quite a while. There was no wind at all, which made it seem so much warmer than a lot of nights that the temperature may have been just as warm but the wind made them seem so cold. The lake seemed to have quite a bit of water in it too, which is more than we can say for all the lakes we've been to so far in California. Perhaps this is because we are further north now.
